Teams & Leadership Speaker Series
DELTA lab will be sponsoring a new speaker series at Georgia Tech! The Teams & Leadership Speaker Series will bring top scholars making novel contributions to the science of team effectiveness and/or leadership to Georgia Tech. These events are open to the Georgia Tech community. The aim of this series is to build connections and hasten the development of expertise in teams and leadership at Georgia Tech. We seek to connect members of the Georgia Tech community with a shared interest in teams and leadership with leading scholars in the area.
Prasad Balkundi is an associate professor of management in the State University of New York at Buffalo. He received his Ph.D. in business administration from Pennsylvania State University. His research interests include social networks and leadership in teams and his work has appeared in the Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review and Journal of Applied Psychology.
Stephen J. Zaccaro is a professor of psychology at George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia. Previously, he served on the faculty of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and of the College of the Holy Cross. He received his PhD in social psychology from the University of Connecticut. He has been studying, teaching, and consulting about teams and leadership for over 25 years. He has written over 100 articles, book chapters, and technical reports on group dynamics, team performance, leadership, and work attitudes. He has written a book titled, The Nature of Executive Leadership: A Conceptual and Empirical Analysis of Success (2001) and co-edited three other books, Occupational Stress and Organizational Effectiveness (1987), The Nature of Organizational Leadership: Understanding the Performance Imperatives Confronting Today's Leaders (2001), and Leader Development for Transforming Organizations (2004). He has also co-edited a special issue of Group and Organization Management on the interface between leadership and team dynamics, and special issues of Leadership Quarterly on individual differences and leadership. He has directed funded research projects in the areas of team performance, shared mental models, leader-team interfaces, leadership training and development, leader adaptability, and executive leadership. He has consulted for projects on developing leader assessment tools, constructing leadership training systems, and on measuring performance in human-robot team systems. He is also an experienced leadership coach.
Dr. Jay Carson is an assistant professor at the Southern Methodist University's Cox School of Business. Dr. Carson holds a PhD from the Robert H. Smith School of Business, University of Maryland and is an expert in the field of leadership and teams. At the core of his current work is the desire to understand relationships between team leadership, team performance, team motivation, and individual outcomes. His research primarily focuses on shared leadership, informal leadership roles within teams, and internal team goal alignment. He is also interested in external team leadership and coaching, the role of leadership and teams in innovation, and cross-cultural issues concerning teams and leadership.
Dr. Steve W. J. Kozlowski is a professor of psychology at Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI. The current editor of the Journal of Applied Psychology, Dr. Kozlowski is a premiere leader in the field of teams research. He holds a PhD from The Pennsylvania State University, and is a fellow in many professional societies including the Association for Psychological Science, the American Psychological Association, and the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology. Dr. Kozlowski is a prolific author of many publications including journal articles, book chapters, and entire books. His research centers on the processes by which individuals, teams, and organizations learn, develop and adapt. He has conducted research in several substantive areas related to this theme over the course of his career. His early work focused on factors influencing organizational change, processes of individual adaptation, and judgment. Dr. Kozlowski's more recent research has centered on developing theory and research findings to integrate learning processes across the individual, team, and organizational levels. Foci include: (1) active learning techniques and technology based training, (2) team training and learning, team leadership and development, and team adaptation and effectiveness; and (3) aligning training and learning with the organizational system.
